Elwis:  Everything Changed

Like many CSF students, Elwis was the first in his family to graduate from college. Elwis grew up in a single parent household with just his dad. “My father barely finished high school. He went into the military, so going to college wasn’t a big push for me,” he says.

While attending high school in Tacoma, WA, Elwis was selected as one of the first CSF Achievers Scholarship Scholars, and everything changed.  After high school graduation, he earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing at Washington State University (WSU) in 2006 and now works for Opus Bank as Vice President of Business Banking.

“Without Achievers I probably wouldn’t have gone to a four-year university,” Elwis states. “I may not have gone to college at all. I probably would have just found a job somewhere.”

Now that Elwis’s career has launched, he is giving back to his community, serving as a CSF Hometown Mentor at Foss and Mount Tahoma high schools as well as actively participating in CSF’s Alumni organization.  With the support of College Success Foundation donors, Elwis has been able to realize his full potential for completing college and pursuing a successful career. He has returned to his hometown of Tacoma, where he works and lives with his wife and four children.
